This is an intense hands-on course designed to meet the intent of:
- 40 CFR (EPA)
- 29 CFR 1910.120 (OSHA)
- 33 CFR (USCG)
- 46 CFR (USCG)
This course includes and in-depth hands-on review of the following:
- OPA 90 overview
- Spill plan
- Spill prevention
- Spill containment and clean up
- Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)
- Medical surveillance
- Decontamination
- Emergency response plan
- Environmental sampling
- Spill control
- Safe handling of drum containers. (i.e. leak containment, sampling and transferring)
- Hazard and risk analysis (related to site restoration activities)
- Direct and side effects of chemical exposure to unprotected or under protected workers. (including the effects of heat induced stress on the body)
- Uses / Limitations of available monitoring equipment (including, but not limited to a combustible gas detector, oxygen analyzer, pH paper and strips, colorimetric tubes, and radiation detection equipment.)
- Drum patching, over-packing, and transfer
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Hazardous material characteristics
- Reactive and explosive chemicals
In order to ensure the program has met its goal and the students are fully OPA 90 qualified, all students will be given a pre-test and post-test. In addition, each students skills will be evaluated during each field evolution. Minimum written test scores are 70% while field evolutions require 100% compliance as determined by each instructor. Certificates will be issued to all students meeting this criteria.
